Liliana Valenzuela’s poetic voice is eclectic. Lyrical or narrative, tender or erotic, intimate or street-smart, elegant or visceral, operatic or minimal, but always faithful to the vital, sensual and essential harmonies and cadences between heart and body and mind. Like the lens of a cinematographic camera, her vision of either nature or cityscape is at times panoramic and at others fixed on detail, but always unerringly focused on the poetic image, organic or lapidary, the point to to where all paths to desire lead or return.
And all of these poetic accomplishments in two languages, nurtured by two formidable cultural currents that unite in Liliana’s poetry to form a third and uniquely distinct stream, making it almost impossible to tell which of these poems were originally written in English or in Spanish.

"A young writer with an astute pen, the sincerity of Amanda Oliver’s writing has become too uncommon in contemporary poetry. Her work displays a deep concern for sound, challenging fellow poets and entertaining the casual reader. Instead of gimmickry or shock value, Amanda's poetry is founded on a commitment to the truth and beauty necessary for poetry to retain its place in fabric of human expression." - Colin Gilbert, Poet, The Mattress Parlor
