BHBITB Originations: Video stills High-definition digital video, color, sound, 10 minutes, 2009
Who: My name is Joshua Haycraft. I am a designer, artist, and teacher interested in science fiction, cultural production, and the influence design and technology have in shaping the future.
What: I conduct anthropological “research” into a universe of my own creation through the production of objects, videos, and environments that function as artifacts from the world of BHBITB.
Where: I physically exist in Baltimore MD, USA. BHBITB.com is an effort to place the world of BHBITB into a completely self-referential space and eliminate any allusion to the “real” world. When the real world must be considered, BHBITB positions itself as a legitimate entity whose purpose is to inform the public about BHBITB.
When: This project has evolved from an ambiguous name to where it is now over the last six years. Since the goal of BHBITB is to specify every detail of an entire universe the length of this project in undetermined, but is scheduled to last for a long time.
Why: My motivations for BHBITB have evolved over time, and are currently driven by the interests stated above and my attempts to understand the current trajectories of our collective civilization.
How: For the exhibition I plan to fly to London to help setup the show and attend the opening. I do not plan to stay for the entire three-four weeks. My proposed work will take the form of an informational kiosk that will exist as either a wall or freestanding piece and will contain video and interactive elements. The unit will be shipped back to the United States. Funding for travel and shipping expenses is appreciated.
