Lisa Iglesias draws on paper and sometimes these drawings turn into videos, creep onto walls and cut into cardboard. Working alone and oftentimes collaborating with friends like Jin Kim or her sister, Janelle, as Las Hermanas Iglesias, Lisa travels between residencies and hunkers down on people's couches, baking cupcakes, walking her dog Friedrich, and dreaming of oversized bookshelves. While her practice is rooted in drawing, she employs a wide array of strategies including video and sculpture through which to explore issues of repetition, fate and the uncanny. Meticulous mark making, repetitive construction techniques, and interplay between individual and collaborative work incite the viewer to question modes of temporality, authorship and futility.
